Dear Students, Parents and Members of our Community,
I’d like to warmly welcome all of you to the middle and secondary school at AIS. I am so excited to have the opportunity to oversee this area of our school operations and I would like to take this opportunity to highlight some of the areas which we consider to be our strengths:
- Our middle school (G6-8) and high school (G9-12) both follow an American-based curriculum which follows the Common Core State Standards for mathematics and English language arts, and the Next Generation Science Standards for our science program. All core subjects are taught in English by certified instructors who are fluent speakers of English and they are supported by qualified local faculty in the classrooms.
- We follow a subject-specialist method in both the middle and high schools, which means that teachers instruct classes within their area of expertise in the core subjects (language arts, mathematics, science, and social studies). We also have subject-area specialists for our elective courses: physical education, art, music, ICT, and foreign languages.
- In preparation for our first graduating class in the 2016/17 school year, we have brought in a school counselor whose role it is to assist our students with the challenges of qualifying and applying to post-secondary institutions around the world.
It is an exciting time of growth and change at both Ayeyarwaddy International School and in Myanmar, and we are working diligently to ensure that AIS students are well-prepared for this rapidly changing environment. Our main objective in the middle and high school level is to produce academically prepared learners who exhibit creative and critical thinking skills, and who can contribute meaningfully to global conversations. We are confident that our students will use the skills and knowledge gained at AIS to be productive and successful long after they have left our classrooms.
Mr. Justin Rankin
